Reading your heart.
An ECG can show the rate and rhythm of your heart, problems such as atrial fibrillation, and some signs of heart strain or a previous heart attack. Your GP may order one for palpitations, dizziness, breathlessness, a check-up, or before some medicines or procedures.
A normal ECG does not rule out every heart problem, so your GP will look at it alongside your symptoms.

What happens next.
